Do I presume to fathom what of beauty consists
As from my feverish seeking I do not desist
For from created beings I do implore
My soul's satiety of beauty-hunger
Alas, Augustine has long since exclaimed
From his own wanderings, wisdom gained
That beauty sought in sublunary stations
Shall, in due course, bear such vexations
For it is to say arightly
That from the Divine proceedeth beauty
And what, from my youth, have I longed
Is in Christ to be found
